Amazon L6 to Google Senior staff engineer
Hi all, I am a L6 SDE at Amazon ( 5+ years as SDE3). Close to getting promoted to Principal. Will google consider interviewing me for Senior staff engineering positions or will they be insistent on my existing level at Amazon. My overall YOE is 16 years. I understand I have to do extremely well in interviews etc., But my question is about being given the opportunity to get interviewed. #google #interview
I think you should be able to try for senior staff. It is tough and there are very few in Google. But if you nail the interviews then for sure.
Can you please clarify the interview process for senior staff ?
I'm told they require 15 YOE, so your just barely there. You can apply for it and probably get an interview
Is this a joke? L6 at Amazon normally maps to high L5 at Google so the best you could even hope for is L6 (and you’d have to crush the interviews and find a manager that really wants you on their team)
This is not true. Ex-Amazon here. Roughly speaking, Amazon L6 = Google L6 = Facebook E6 This is considered the official team/tech lead level with around only 10% of engineers reaching there

L6 at Amazon should be able to interview for L6 at Google, super though interviews but very doable
The recruiter would mention that leveling is based on interviews but even if you absolutely crush it you’d be lucky to get L6 (Staff). The more likely outcome might be L5(Senior).
