SWE IC role. Seattle/remote. Not currently at Amazon; offer is for boomerang. Amazon L6 (Senior) TC: 540k first two years, 480k afterwards (not accounting for potential raises or additional RSU. Also not assuming any stock appreciation) Snap L6 (Staff) TC: 600k (waiting for breakdown) Considerations: Amazon won't budge any further on TC. Snap is obviously much higher in expected TC, but I'm worried about the stability of their stock. Amazon is very cash heavy the first two years and their stock is much safer overall. Snap is a higher level, and there's room to move up in that level's pay band, whereas Amazon offer is already above the pay band so it would only go down I assume. The role itself is much more interesting at Amazon. In either company, I'm not at all worried about pip so no concern there. Have a handful of other offers but none of them are compelling enough to consider over these two. TC 360k YOE 10
Could you share your Amazon breakup? How big is the drop on year 3 and 4?
200k base salary. ~700k RSU grant (35k year 1, 105k year 2, 280k year 3 and 4). Signon 310k first year and 230k second year. If comp left unchanged and stock price stays flat, it'd be a 60k drop
Amazon assumes 15% (lol) stock growth every year that's why by 2022 prices you're making slightly less in year 3 and 4
Seems like a bs l6 offer
Nah it's real, also got the same
Amazons not paying 540k for l6
480 is the official top of band for L6. With exceptions it goes up to 540k. I think SF/NY go up to 600k with exceptions but I can't confirm that. I was skeptical about Amazon going this high until I saw the offer first hand. But if you don't believe it then nothing I can do about that
Not l6
Did you pick a high number and just stick to it to keep getting Amazon to come up or how did you get them to keep increasing their offer?
They asked me what my comp expectations were, and I told them I had one offer in the upper 500s range (which I did), and I was likely getting another offer in that same range (which I also did, hence the Snap offer). All my other interviews were for Staff level positions and Amazon isn't stupid so they know other companies are touching 600+ for Staff. They initially offered 480k which is top of band for L6 and I said I unfortunately wouldn't be able to justify that big of a difference. So they came back with an exception for what they claim is the absolute max for the level (540k). I've seen people on Blind say it goes up to 600k and one person claim 650k, but they're definitely not budging past 540k for me.
Thanks! The ranges I saw posted here which were the updated ones recently said L6 could go to 500k and L7 up to 800k
How long ago did u leave amazon?
2020, so this was with a full interview loop
Did you leave Amazon as L6?
Yep, was L6 for a few years before leaving
Where did you go? You current comp seems low
Considering you are a boomerang, I would suggest Amazon. You already know what Amazon is like and the role itself is interesting. So why not come back
Are you sure it's only 600k for L6, that seems a bit lower than expected - L5s are mid 500s.. so, you may be a bit surprised there.
Do you know what top of band L6 breakdown is. Currently interviewing
Did you get Snap numbers?
Amazon used to do high rsu percentage year 3 and 4, has that changed now?
Still 5/15/40/40
