Got an L7 IC offer from Amazon. What are the expectations for this level at Amazon? How much time they give for ramp up etc. before they start evaluating the level performance?
Btw, if your level was 65 or below, that’s hell of a jump.
Can you elaborate? Do you recommend that I don't take it if that's the case?
L7 is 66-67. I wouldn’t think of that as hell of a jump, especially if they’ve been at 65 a couple of years, but it is a ‘transfer promo’ for sure. Well done OP.
PEs are expected to have impact on GM to VP level orgs
What's the job code/title? Ranges vary based on role.
fucking selfish like you who doesn’t want to give anything( tc, yoe, current level) but just interested in taking ( anonymous, but legitimate advice) will have less to offer at your level!
TC in the new principal role?
Tip1: day one Insist on 1-1 with your manager and ask him/her whether he has made 6 months plan for you, if not ask what one thing is expected(feature, new product initiative) from you so that you can plan your day and weeks. easy to get overwhelmed if none of the above is planned for you! tip2: scan as many design docs as possible( related to the immediate team you will be contributing) rt after/ during the Amazon(internal tools, systems)onboarding process. tip3: there will always be 1-2 junior engineers who has worked in the team for 1.5+ years , aim to ONLY ask them of any questions you have( you are L7, there is no lack of intellect, just the time crunch to get a 360 degree view and a little deep dive into the tech stack) junior engineers(pick one) are hands on and would know tiny details and are very welcoming to white board. in the process you both will learn from each other. Tip4: after 2-3 weeks folks will be expecting to express your opinion on the design of multiple projects in the team, tip 2 and 3 would help you here Tip 5: Do not ask too many questions in the team meeting for first 2 weeks/u til you finish tip 2-4( being overwhelmed will sometimes force you to act stupid) tip5: socialize how much time to evaluate: 2-3 weeks you should be able to start providing design reviews
Thank you very much for the great tips. Very helpful advice.
6 months ramp up time sounds too long
Congrats on the L7. Usually L7 equals to at least L66 in MS. I think GM or Director expects high from L7, u can’t spend 4 months to ramp up. You need to build your value ASAP. 1st month ramp up tools and infra 2nd month work on refactoring and feedback 3rd month new design proposal.

Congrats, big deal. 4-6. What level at ms?
What do you mean by 4-6? I prefer not to disclose level.
4 to 6 months before people start evaluating your impact. The review at amazon is in jan, so you probably would not be stack ranked at that time. Most orgs do quarterly rankings.
