I would appreciate if somebody from Amazon or AWS team in Boston would confirm what dress code is expected on SWE role interview. Recruiter said that it is business casual leaning towards casual, but I did not hear clear confirmation that jeans and t-shirt is appropriate, though I was told nobody would judge me by that. What's the norm there? I learned that East Cost can be more conservative and assumption is that candidate should wear a shirt.
Shave your head to look like Jeff B. They will be impressed by your dedication and hire you on the spot.
That's interesting idea! Though I didn't have such kind of doubts in other Big 4 interviews. "Business Casual" wording really bothers me.
I would infer a shirt tucked/untucked with jeans. That's my definition of business casual. Also, plain T with bland chinos and a semi casual coat would be good. I think.
^ That's how I rolled into the on-site there. Fit right into the environment there just fine. West Coast, though... YMMV.
Skip the coat.
Tuxedo
You really want a three piece suit if you’re aiming for the top TC
A few dudes at AWS wear kilts everyday, unclear if they did that during the interviews or if they’re even Scottish.
Amazon company wide is casual. Shorts and flip flops are ok. I work in east coast and see this all the time. I interviewed in Seattle and saw no difference.
It's really difficult sometimes to tell the difference who is serious and who is not in team blind. Either I care too much or some people forgot how nervous the interview prep process is, including Amazon folks. Thanks to those who have given any reasonable advices.
Your recruiter should tell you. In general, dress like you're going to work there. If SDE, very lax. If you're customer-facing, take it up a notch and wear a shirt with a collar and pants with a belt. We don't care what you look like, but don't stand out like a sore thumb either direction. A suit will get you laughed at, and probably get dinged for bad culture fit for most roles.
Thank you! Appreciate it!
Nobody cares if you can leetcode hard.
