A friend is joining AWS as L4 and he just has 4 years left on H1B and has no i140 approved. He wants to stick around the next company until he gets his i140. His skip manager said he approves PERM applications while during team match call. So, will AWS start the process from day 1? Or do they just apply for PERM and wait for complete i140 only after promotion to L5?
did he get this in written jn offer letter?
He spoke with the hiring manager and they were okay with it.
So it is just verbal?

It doesn't start on day 1. Policy says at least 6 months in good standing....more commonly done for L5s but they file for L4s too with manager approval
Is it risky to join given he has just 3-4 years left on H1B and Amazon's pip policy? His concern is he doesn't wanna get piped before his i140 approval. If that happens, he is screwed.
There is no such policy that states u have to be in good standing for 6 months. Ideally, ur manager can let u start the process on day 1 itself. Ask ur friend to talk with the HM before joining the team and most managers will be OK with it. I joined as a L4 and applied for PERM within 3 months. Not joining Amazon because of ‘PIP culture’ is like not driving because u may be involved in one.
