Amazon PM role

I am currently a director of product management at a startup in Austin. TC $250k A recruiter from Amazon reached out to me for a manager of program management role. I did a quick search on paysa and saw that this exact role has a TC less than 200k and I would have to move to Seattle. The recruiter didn't bring up comp and I didn't ask. 1. Should I email the recruiter and ask him about TC? Usually I consider interviews good practice but I don't want waste my time if TC is that far off. 2. How hard would it be to go into product management at another FAANG after doing this PgM role? 3. If I do badly in my interviews for this role, will it impact my ability to apply for other jobs at Amazon? Thanks for your help!

If they have gave you the offer, then ask. If not, I’d wait after you received the offer

I only had the screening call. I am talking to the hiring manager tomorrow. I don't have the job in the bag. There is nothing about the job that is appealing to me. But I would be excited if my TC was 300+ Don't read that as arrogance. I don't want to leave Austin for a lame position with a lame TC... There has to be something in it for me.

Not even l6 product managers make that. If it’s an l5 program manager total comp is $140k and l6 is $200k. $300k+ is out of band

I would not take a title downgrade for amazon. Your comp seems great and tx is cheap. I would stay there for sure!

If I use the interview to practice, and I don't do well, will it impact my other applications?

Not if you do well

what's the role level at Amazon? I wouldn't go for anything lower than Principal. Principal should be in line with your comp

It's a manager role with a handful of direct reports.

Does the recruiter know your expectations? I feel like they would let you know if it was totally out of line. If the recruiter knows and is moving forward, I would focus on whether you want the job rather than TC. Save that part for the end.

We didn't discuss TC. The conventional wisdom goes something like this "whomever discusses comp first loses". So I didn't bring it up.

Discuss comp expectation if you don’t need a practice round
