Is Amazons pto pretty flexible? So if you have X amount of days are they pretty rigid in the sense “you can only take this many days” or is it flexible like “so long as you’re getting your work done you’d be able to take more time off”? Coming from a place that has “open pto” so hence mg question. 😂
Dependent on manager and your performance, I take off whenever I want
We have vacation and personal days, it's confusing how it works, but it's actually surprisingly generous compared to how crappy most of our benefits are.
My manager is flexible. I am soon going on a 5 weeks vacation, but I have only 2 weeks vacation left.
That’s good to know! Thanks!
Wait, how is that approved? No way your manager could allow you to have an extra 3 weeks off while on full payroll? I don't think at Amazon you could even get into negative balance; unpaid LOA might be the only way to get an extra 3 weeks.
It’s very flexible in my experience
In my experience most managers are flexible
Most managers are flexible, but problem is we are constantly in semi crunch mode. So, taking huge chucks of days off will impact project delivery which is frowned upon.
I’m flexible and allow people to take as much time as they want without having to ask for approval. I have to say though if the performance sucks and still not taking extra time to ramp and learn. I’m annoyed, especially if you are a newbie and apparently didn’t front load the time here.
That’s what I’m hoping. I’m always a high performer in previous roles so never been an issue
Really manager dependent. But generally if you do well, I don’t think any manager will frown upon it. Unlimited PTOs are accounting scams because companies will not have to accrue it. It’s really culture and manager and org most of the time.
Very manager dependent my dep is always ahod to the point we don't have all hands so it is not encouraged to take vacations let alone long ones
Very team/manager dependent. I’ve had teams that want to retain a certain percentage (80% or greater) of people working at all times and others that are pretty loose with it as long as your work is getting done.
Very very very manager dependent there. I know some managers that like to give comp days after crunch time
That’s kind of what I figured. Every place I’ve worked I’ve felt that way as well. Been fortunate to have good managers. Hiring manager for role I’m going into final round for seems like she’d be very flexible.
that’s a good policy esp if they asked for extra hrs/weekend during crunch time
