I’ve heard that amazon PTO is 2 weeks for the first year and 3 weeks for every year afterwards. Is that the same for every level? Does amazon have any “personal holidays” to supplement the vacation time? Also how is vacation time accrued?
Total of pto + sick days + holidays is 25 in year 1 and 30 in year 2
Amazon has the following time off: - Vacation: used for... vacations... - Personal: fewer in number, and designed for things like sick dependents, religious holidays (outside of federal), deaths, family events, etc. - Sick: even fewer in number than personal, used for when sick... - Professional: usually organization specific, but a lot of AWS organizations have it. An example would be 10 days a year you can use for professional development. Includes funding from amazon, typically for conventions, open source work, etc. - Federal/State: your normal federal holidays, in addition to state holidays (ie California has a lot)
How many PTOs for the 2nd yr?
Thank you for the detailed response. If you don’t use vacation time do you get paid for it? Or just lose it?
Doesn't Amazon hilariously count holidays as part of that pto number though? Like I know it's technically PTO but they tell you you get, whatever, 25 days but 10 of them are holidays where a normal company would just say you get 15 days of PTO
Not according to the data in my ADP, but who knows tbh.
Here's the doc for PTO in the US. (https://www.amazon.jobs/en/landing_pages/pto-overview-us). The personal time is almost the same as vacation in that you can use it for anything you'd like, but it is use-it-or-lose-it while vacation carries over with some limits. I just signed an offer with them and went through this- PTO is not officially negotiable (I tried).
When I was working for Amazon I almost never report my PTO to the system. As long as my manager is okay with that. However I only took about 10 business days a year.
It is VERY common that people max out their vacation and have to burn it somehow or they stop accruing it. At least in SF. And the HR term you’re looking for is ‘floating holidays’ and yes you get them at Amazon as well as the standard bank holidays. Confirming that it’s 2 weeks in year 1 and 3 thereafter. It goes up at 5 years as well.
How many people stay for 5 years in Amazon?

What is a personal holiday? Lol
Lol, just extra days off that don’t accrue like vacation. Does amazon have anything like that?
