What TC could I expect as a principal SA for Amazon (AWS)? I see plenty of threads about SAs, but none for principal SAs. Job would be remote but based out of NYC. Also, what does the initial phone screen usually consist of? Is it just a recruiter asking you basic questions to see if you’re a good fit, or do they get into technical knowledge?
Is this customer success or Presales? What’s you’re current TC? YOE?
Presales. YOE is 9.5 years. Current TC is $200k.
Defending on related experience, probably around 200k OTE.
Lots of leadership principles, "tell me about a time when..." which can lead into technical discussions on choices and challenges
Ok awesome. Those are the kinds of questions I’m great at answering. I absolutely hate “gotcha” questions (asking about some obscure thing that’s not important just to trip you up) so I’ve been worrying that I’ll get some of those.
Principal has a very high bar in terms of both technology and Leadership Principles. Phone screen is usually with technical architect. TC could be upwards of 300k depending on interview performance.
Is Principle L6 or L7? Seems like there are people saying 200k is a solid offer for it and others (like you) saying 300k is!
Principal SA is l7, not l6. AWS l6 sa range is like 200k-250k. So l7 principal SA should be easily 300k+
I received principal offer L7 in bay. DM if seriously interviewing. At High level- interview was pretty organized and not easy i would say its relative if you say hard. Part of success in interview was demand supply and your timing and luck besides your portfolio. More of executive and leadership interview in-nature since you are expected to be leader there. Clealry, your writing and communication skill is the taken way too seriously regardless of how much you know and obvisually very strong technical experience is required in past life. There was an essay writing on a given topic and solution design to defend for a situation which was partly complex and not straightforward so take it something like for an example (not a real question because of NDA) but something like “building a streaming architecture for football match with live chat” and to give you some idea and it was heavily White boarding all time deeply rooted from end to end. They ask your focus area in the beginning and weak area and they ask quite a lot and they judge you on multiple pillars this is on-site experience and total 6 rounds total ( 5 on-site (3 one day and 2 second day )and 1 remote) besides multiple rounds of HR blah blah beating around leadership and demonstrating your communication and negotiation skills.
What was the offer?
I saw AWS was posting 182k-247k for a position in Colorado.

First learn "principal" vs "principle"
You’re right. I’m an idiot...typing too fast and not thinking. All fixed now.
