Joined Amazon 2 years ago. Got promoted last year with no refreshers. Is it normal? Why Amazon you stingy? Do you guys think I was screwed over? Promotion was from L4 to L5 ( SDE ) TC: 172 Base + 25k initial stock grant Location : Bay Area
Your comp is 280k ?
Depends on how much of rsu you got when you joined. I was stupid to take 40 rsu 2 years back. With promo last year and have been getting 10 each year . This years comp is 240k
Dud 170k base in Bay Area 😳 That's like top of band for sde2. Also Amazon is notorious for not giving RSUs because they say your TC is already at intended level due to stock appreciation
Nonsense policy .
How many stocks did you get in initial grant?
They’re not stingy if they pay you the market rate - if you think you should get more go get a competing offer
Why just get a competing offer? Why not leave for a better paying company like (shameless plug), Apple.
They are stingy because no other company takes stock growth into account for your comp. it’s strictly Amazon. And Apple is not a better paying company. You have to get up-leveled to get better pay. Apples SDE II comp starts half way into Amazons pay band.
lol
Bottom of L5 SDE band now in Bay Area is 220k. So when you were promoted last year, your 2020 comp should have been adjusted to around 205/210k at the time - bottom of L5 band then. Actual 2020 comp should be higher as stock price is much higher now. Furthermore, in April when we had PCS review, your 2021 comp should have been adjusted to 220k at the minimum, as an HV L5. Did you not see this happen?
Normal for amzn, they penalize you for stock appreciation
250k a year is not absurd compensation for L5.

OP. Are you in AWS or Amazon? I’m in AWS and on my way to L5 in next couple of months.
