Amazon Relocation option

Please advise in which option to take. 1. Lump sum of 10 K self managed move 2. Assisted corporate housing package. I am a single guy with no car. I am planning to leave/sell my bed and desk/chair. My only concern is to be able to find a place to rent when moving to Seattle from East Coast hence was thinking of going the corporate housing which will give me some time to find a place to rent. But one friend recommend to take the lump sum since I don't have much stuff with no family/pets. Please let me know which option would you recommend. Thank you Future TC: 150 K 2 YOE

Lump sum. Finding a place to rent in Seattle isn’t difficult; paying for temp housing if you take your time will cost far less than 10k.

You mean temp housing like Airbnb will cost far less than 10K for a month?

Temp housing for even three months and the flight will be far less than 10k

Just take the lump sum and book a Motel for a week or two, you’ll realize whats best for you+teammates can recommend

Yes my friend recommended this exact option.

So they separate corporate housing from relocation these days? If it's move only 10k is no brainer. If you need temp housing still probably better option.

yes its either corporate housing and 2.5K or lump sum

Was in the same situation and decided to take assisted corporate housing package cause i liked the temp housing option. they also reimburse rent payment up to 3k or 4.5k (for homeowners) if you don’t use corporate housing

Yes the only reason of considering that assisted package is because of corporate housing otherwise I don't need much of their services

Actually I recently went through this. If I didn't have a car, and a bed and couch I didn't want to sell, id have gone for lump sum which after tax would be like 6.5k ish I think. The assisted move was better for me not only because of car and furniture transportation but also because they break lease at old apartment which was needed for me and a bunch of other things..also..one thing..if you take assisted move and don't take corporate housing ( I already booked an apartment), you get 3k rent reimbursement. This is in addition to the 2.5k ..so you can decide.

Thanks for the advice I guess I can transfer my bed and desk to the new place. How did you find a place before your move to Seattle. Any recommendentions for places with quiet neighborhoods and close to Amazon day 1 building?

Parallon YMpz83 Jan 3, 2019

It depends on your budget. I'm also moving to day 1 and slu is very close and also Dexter avenue. Places like amli are running specials like one month , 2 month free..if you take assisted move option they assign you an agent to help look for houses although I didn't use that service. I found apartment list.com to be very helpful.

So you don’t have anything to move beyond suitcases, and you will buy whatever you need when you get there?

Citrix Systems YUuX44 OP Jan 3, 2019

Pretty much or I can take the assisted option and transfer my bed/mattress and table/chair to the new location instead of selling or leaving.

If you are ok with it, just find a temp housing option through CL with some room mate for a couple of weeks or a month until you find some permanent place. If you ok with that lump sum would be better for your financials :)

agree lump sum would be better since I dont have much stuff
