Hi guys, I am moving to Seattle from other state. I am wondering which option is better: * Lump sum (7K minus tax) or full coverage? What's pros and cons? is it negotiable for new grad? - Alone - *may* ship my car - haven't found apt/townhouse at Seattle yet. Thank you.
^ this. Depends how much lump sum they offer you (ask if they’ll cover for taxes)
New grad 140
Pretty sure the lump sum is net (so taxes covered by Amazon). The managed package is worth more, but depends how much of the services you'll use. The big benefits: - Corporate housing for 30-45 days - Relocation advisor to help you find a place - Help you sell your house or break your current lease - Rental car/Uber/train allowance - Extra cash allowance (mine was about $4k) - 45 days of storage for your stuff I took the managed one mainly because I'm moving internationally with a family and it has a lot of benefits for me. Pretty sure the relo packages aren't negotiable. I think they're set for each level (my package says L5/L6 on it). Honestly....even as a new grad without much stuff I'd probably still take the managed option. Ask yourself...What's your time worth? Are you going to arrive in Seattle and get an apartment and the rest of your life sorted in a week? Would it better to take a month and figure out where you want to live, get a better sense of your budget, etc.
Thanks for the details. Does lump sum not have corporate housing?
Nope. I just re-read my offer and here's what's in the lump sum option - Net payment of $13600 - Final travel (airfare or mileage covered) - immigration reimbursement - City Switcher (relo company gives you access to some of the vendors that they use)
Did they ask you to pay it back if you get PIP or resign? Make sure it’s very clear - They could go after you.
I haven’t asked yet. Thanks I’ll ask on Monday
Yes...if you leave for any reason inside of 2 years they'll come after it (on a pro rated basis).
I would suggest lump sum if you don't have much stuff, finding apartment in Seattle isn't tough. I would only consider relo package coz of car. You can look into it and decide
OP what questions were you asked for the SDE 1 position?

depends. lump sum amount?
7K minus tax. :(
I think that's max, more than a move would cost :). If you want to negotiate, ask for other parts of package. If you want convenience, get the full service. DIY, lump sum.
