Received a verbal offer from Amazon today for an SDE I position either in NYC or Arlington, VA (currently located in Arlington, but requested NYC. However, the headcount there for Q2 is mostly filled already according to my recruiter). My recruiter asked previously for my expected compensation to which i responded "competitive", but now that she has given me a verbal offer, she asked again so she can formally roll out a physical offer next week (depending on if she can find me a team in NYC or not). What do I say here? I've never negotiated a salary before and don't have any other offers on the table currently so my go to is always just "Expecting a competitive salary for the area". I'm sure I could find some data on blind or levels about TC for SDE I with my YOE, but looking for advice on what I should do here. Thanks in advance! Can you please share your interview experience?
It was a virtual onsite, 4 rounds, 3 DS questions, 1 system design question and 7 behavioral questions regarding Amazon's LPs. I was interviewing for both SDE I and SDE II and was told I would get an offer based off my performance in the interview (I didn't expect SDE II given my experience so wasn't surprised at the SDE I offer). As for more specifics.. - the system design was to design a parking garage system - the DS questions were a LC easy, medium and hard (DP question, retrieve and insert in constant time, and a backtracking question involving a 2D grid and a trie, respectively) - Behavioral questions were pretty standard amazon LP questions you can find online Overall it was a pretty great experience and all my interviewers were engaging and helpful throughout the entire day.
Thanks!
Can I ask how you got the offer? After onsite what happened? It's 5 days and I just got an email from the recruiter that says " Scheduling this time to go over the results from your final round interview" with subject "Interview Update Results - Call" via Chime. Interviews went great. But this feels like a rejection. Wondering how Amazon sends an offer? Am I overthinking it?
You’re overthinking it.
I have 5 days left till the recruiter and I talk. Already said no to for a great position because of location. And I can't show them I'm desperate. Locked inside my house. What should I do if not overthink

What is the appeal to NVIDIA?
Just say near the upper band for SDE1.
Lol so i said exactly this and she got back to me saying she needs a literal range and also told me to feel free to do some research over the weekend and get back to her on monday with an estimated base, 1st/2nd year bonus, and RSU on monday.. Basically gonna just ask for the max band based off what i see on blind/levels
Wtf, what a shitty recruiter.
