I have a bachelors and masters from a top school. 2 yoe. Currently working at Oracle. Applied for an SDE 2 position at Amazon but the recruiter got back saying they want to hire me for SDE1. Total comp is gonna be around 170K which is less than my current comp. It doesnt make any sense to join in my opinion. My question is how can I convince them to consider me for SDE2? Are titles negotiable at Amazon or is this offer set in stone?
Same situation, asked if possible to have another round or something
How did the recruiter react to asking for another round?
Similar situation as yours, they dont negotiate on level, leave it and go for another interview in an year or take it and get promoted in 1.5 year
Ask for top of the band SDE1 offer. Or tell them you are ready to give additional interviews for SDE2.
If you truly raise the SDE 2 bar, you can get promoted in like 6 months. You’re competing against new grads...
Most of managers will not promote you in 6 months and let you leave. After joining it is all bull shit. In my org average promo is 2.5 years. Sucks

Avoid teams with only Chinese or Indians especially with a Chinese/Indian manager
Join as SDE 1 and get promoted to SDE2 in a year
I am wary that this is how they get you through the door. Depending on your manager/project becoming SDE2 can take 2 years in the worst case. In which case I would be getting my first promotion after 4yoe. Doesn’t seem great!
IME people won't care if an L4 has some xp before they joined.
