Amazon TC: 250k at Seattle Expected VMWare TC: 300k at Bay Area 7+ exp Thoughts?
When tax and cost of living is taken into account that's not a huge increase.
Should be fine in terms of career progression - Sr MTS is the top of the MTS band here. Both are good names for your resume, I think. The type and pace of work could be very different so you should make sure you've thought that through. Cost of living will be very different and I don't know that you'll see an increase in discretionary spending money after increase in taxes, housing, etc.
Don't, just don't.
Ask if you can work remote or from one of VMware's other locations. A lot of roles can be done 'from Texas' If you can pull that TC for one of the Austin sites or be remote, VMware is amazing.
We also have former Amazon folks who are remote from Seattle area, so maybe you can avoid a move?
Sr. MTS or Staff-I but TC not worth it!
I am a staff at VMWare and I don’t make 300k TC
You might be close enough off or equal or more because I'm MTS III and making 200k TC With 2yrs of experience. Consider including vesting RSUs as well. Maybe I'm wrong, and over estimating Staff TC.
Not necessarily a good move.
Some explanation would be helpful.
The bulk of TC increase will be eaten by CA state income tax and much higher cost of living. I think this boils down to 1. Preference of your work in Amazon vs VMWare 2. Sunny CA vs WA, etc
