I just had a second interview with Amazon for SDE2 position and I failed. The first one was 1 year ago and that time I did not even make it to the onsite interview. The second interview which I just had, I made it to the onsite interview but I am rejected. It was 5 round interviews (3 coding, 1 system design, 1 behaviour). I thought I did good on the coding and system design questions. One mistake I made was I shared the same stories for two LP questions with two different interviewers but I thought this would be ok since the questions were very similar and I could not come up with other examples. I prepared for a month. I solved 140 Leetcode questions (50% medium, 40% easy, 10% hard), studied the grokking the system design thoroughly, reviewed all system design websites that I could find and wrote down 2 examples for each LP. I felt pretty confident right before the interview. I studied as much as I could. I sacrificed my social life. I did not hangout with friends and family. Told them I am preparing for an interview. I did not even reply to some of the friends' text messages. I promised myself that I would pay them back after I succeed on the Amazon interview. I told myself I must not fail. I tried my best but..... I still failed. Now, here I am, totally lost, don't know what to do. Don't know what to tell my friends and family. I told myself that only getting into a big company will help me restore the ego that I lost from those who looked down on me for working at a company that nobody knows and cares. I am writing this that I want to know if anyone has similar experience and how you overcome the issue. If you could give me some guidance I really appreciate it. Any advice will be great at this time. Thank you for reading this post. YOE: 4 years TC: 83k
There is alot of variance in the interview process. The rejection may have nothing to do with your ability, and just bad luck. Try applying elsewhere. There are alot if good companies out there.
Damn. Sorry to hear that. Interviewing is a crap shoot sometimes. You just have to interview at a lot of the top companies, and keep trying. You can sometimes get unlucky no matter how prepared you are.
You made it that far in an Amazon interview, im sure you would do well elsewhere (which may pay higher). Maybe the reason you were not selected was not due to skill, but personality or diversity. Also don't define your value by the company you work for. They don't care about you.
Earni - dont feel bad. You did your best and the knowledge you gained stays with you. I have been where you are, honestly when I look back it all seems silly and funny. It's just one interview, you will find a better job soon. Chin up and respond to those texts from friends and family you have been ignoring
I know a friend who couldn’t convert her internship at Amazon to a full time offer( believe me - that’s supposed to be way manageable than going through a whole onsite full time interview). She was pretty heartbroken - seeing many of her peers getting offers towards the end of their internships. However she persisted and tried a year after that .. and got a full time role . Another friend I knew - who converted his internship to full time offer - later got PIPed - a year into the job. It could be a blessing in disguise for you - you never know. Amazon is known to be brutal and make ppl work their ass off on shitty stuff . So focus on the companies with good work culture and work that interests you and keep giving your best ! Don’t get disheartened. The best is waiting for you my friend.
Nice stories. Look on bright side. It couldve been much worse
Don’t fucking quit. You’re close to the finish line, keep prepping and apply for a bunch of companies.
I would say that it’s a blessing. Amazon sucks anyways. You can find something better
Wait I actually really like amazon lol
Do you work in amazon?
Hang in there, just keep applying.
It’s all about luck! You will find some other opportunity soon
