I recently interviewed with Amazon Boston. The recruiter just called me and told that I was not a good fit for the role I was interviewing for, but the feedback was pretty strong. So, they are going to open my profile to other teams to see if there is any interest. The recruiter said that I don’t have to interview again. It will be based on my current feedback. Is this common? Has anyone experienced this? Or is the recruiter wasting my time?
This happens. We can have a specific gap we are looking to fill, or weakness we need to address in the team or org and you just don’t help there but overall nail all the competencies. It generally sucks, you go in thinking “this one is awesome”. This can also happen on downlevels. You interview for L6, are really close but not there and the team doesn’t have any L5 openings that they can use for you.
I think it’s the first case. They are building a new team and the feedback says I might be better with an established team. I asked and made sure I was not down leveled. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Any idea on the interview process? Recruiter said they will re-use the feedback.
Recruiter is correct. They will use current feedback. This is not too uncommon.
I believe that it could be a good sign. Follow up in one week. If no traction, move on and try again in 6 mos - 1 yr.
Recruiter is a rock star and has been very active. Let’s see how it turns out. Thanks for the feedback.
That sounds promising. My fingers are crossed for you friend!
This is pretty common. Like previous answers, depends on the specific team need. Sounds like you’re in a good place though, I’d reach back out to the recruiter to follow up.
It’s up to the hiring manager whether you will need to interview (full or partial loop) again. Recruiters should not make that promise.
Just to add: I’ve seen that promise made to candidates before, that they would not need to interview, and then it’s a shock to them when the have to re-interview with a different manager, and a breaker of trust as well.
MGHD literally says there is only one loop. Managers that force a second loop are just shitty.
Yes, this happened to me last year. Sad part for me though was dec was slow, even now the recruiter advocates for certain roles that match my skillset however if you do not have patience, push back telling you have recently received an offer however you really want to work on xyz at Amazon! The recruiter that I am working with has been very helpful although she changed orgs. Make the most of this opportunity before they forget you!
OP be proactive and find roles posted on their job site and send them to your recruiter
Yep, it's how I got hired as well. They have tons of openings and tons of candidates, it makes sense they would often end up pairing some that hadn't started as matches
Thanks a lot for your replies. I am looking at the current openings and sending it to the recruiter.
You my friend have been “recycled” in Amazon terms . So in essence what happens is that when the debrief panel finds some deficiencies in a candidate for a certain role but perhaps a fit for other roles, they decide to “recycle”. They will now pretty much just circulate ur resume across other teams for roles they may think are a fit for ur profile and if there are any matches you will certainly be contacted.
What?
