1. Does Amazon offer stock refresh / RSU every year based on performance or is it a one time thing while joining? 2. What to expect regarding compensation in annual review with good performance? TC 230k #amazonbenefits #amazoncompensation #amazon #e-commerce #retail
It’s granted every year after performance review. Those grants vest in next 2 years. You are not likely to see any grant within 1-1.5 years of joining. Amazon grants good number of RSUs to the top tier performers. I was rated top tier and my annual grants were ~100K every time
Same experience with non-tech PMs (supply chain) ?
I recently turned down a huge Amazon offer. If you look at the number, it's about $480K per year in the first 4 years, much higher than those I had in hand: FB and Google. My main concern is the comp cap in Amazon. When your current package is already higher than the cap of that level, you won't get any refresher. I know my package at L6 is already higher than the cap, so it means I won't get any refreshers in first 4 years. That sucks. While FB and Google will issue about 100K ~ 200K refresher per year.
Thanks. Is your’s tech or non-tech position?
👆 this. I ran into the same problem. I didn’t get any for my 3rd and 4th only because current tc was higher than target comp. In 5th year, it will drop drastically if you don’t get promo. If you are at level 5, L6 is very much possible within 4 years but if you are already at L6(my case), then getting L7 is not easy. So, your TC kind of flat at that time until you get L7.
What about if you’re promoted within those 4 years, or is that not expected? I would think a lot of positions have pretty good chance of promo in 4 years, which would include new comp at new level
I second this.
Comp comes with base increase and new rsus but not as crazy. Overall comp will increase 10-15%
All my team had an annual refresher. It is almost granted 10-20% + annual increase.
How many stocks do they get as refreshers?
No grants for 2 years. Then you get grant on 2nd year performance review starting to vest st 3rd year. They say you dont join amazon for rsu but for signing. Use it and get out after 2 years. Lol
RSU at Amazon have been fantastic for me, and, I think, for anyone who has worked for Amazon in the last twenty years. My comp easily exceeded anything other FANG would have paid me. Who knows if the future will be like the past
How many years have you been with amazon?
Amazon does not refresh stock unless you are under your target compensation. The majority of new hires are brought in at higher comps than the target for most employees. This means if you are not in the top performers your compensation will likely drop lots after your initial grants.
If the stock appreciates that will count against you into future years too. If it hits your comp target in the current year you get no more for next two.
It’s not worth staying at amazon after the first two years, the comp structure is very much against you in every way. The other thing that is quite annoying is the rsu vest schedule. In the first two years you get the monthly sign on bonuses so if you leave anytime you only risk not getting the 5% or 15% of stock. However, after year two, you only get the base every month, and stock every 6 months. So if you leave anytime between the stock vests, you will be losing.
What the heck you talking about, I’m sitting on $1.3M+ in vested stock, sold a few at various times and have 670k in unvested stock for the next 2.5 years. L6 SDE
When did you join? how many shares were you awarded? No way you joined during the last 2-4 years on 6 and have so much stock vested, impossible, even with appreciation
Year 3 and 4 are also very lucrative depending on the stock price. Just that as others have pointed out, if you are going to leave, time tour exits so you get your half yearly grant.
