From a technical perspective how does Amazon gage if an individual would best fit a Sys Dev 2 or 3 role? What sets the 3 apart from the 2? I might be interviewing for a 2 spot but want to try to land at Amazon as a 3. Since I come from a telecommunications background I believe my sys admin experience will not be the same as a sys admin from Amazon. With me if I do something 100 times it’s like second nature and for some weird reason I feel like Amazon would ask me sys admin questions about stuff that I may theoretically know about but never really implemented on the job. For example one tech company asked if I ever forked a process before? I was like nope never had a reason to but then afterwards I went and read up on it and by then time of this writing I have already forgotten what it was used for again. LOL. I’ve been a “certificate-less” admin for about 10 years now and learned everything on the job. I know how to script with Perl, Python, PHP, and jQuery to get my projects done and love learning open source solutions to implement into production. Oh and Docker is my new best friend. I love writing scripts to automate the collection, parsing and storing of logs but before all the automation can happen you need to know the systems side of things for the communication between the servers to happen which is where majority of my sys admin skills shine. But I feel Amazon would ask something like why does a particular process keep dumping gc logs? Head scratch...
