If you negotiate tc of say 350k then it's divided into base and rsus & signing bonus. You get 5% for 1st , 15% for 2nd , 40% for 3rd & 4th year. If the percentage of rsu component is more than base then it leads to ~10% drop in TC for years 3 &4 Is that correct ? @Amazon
Yes but they calculate stock appreciation 15% YoY. If you include that it will be same or more.

I'm confused by how you're processing this. The only thing that is broken up in those percentages is your rsu. Your bonus is likely broken between immediate and another one at 1 year or broken up over second year paychecks. Pay is pretty much the same (nominal raises each year that barely cover inflation). Therefore, you should see your lowest pay in year 2 and then after year 4.... Assuming consistent stock growth, and performance stock award in year 2/3/4....
I guess s/he is not considering stock growth and Amazon is notoriously famous for not giving stock awards each year. So if you keep the stock value same as grant price, it will be lower in 3rd and 4th year because of higher First and second year bonus.
Yeah but that's the problem with that logic, bc within your pay band, you'll get higher/lower bumps based on growth and/or performance. Also, where did u get the idea that amazon doesn't give stock award each year? If ur in engineering job family, or higher paid job families (PM, manager, finance, etc), and/or L4/5+, you'll get one every year, unless you're an LE.
Do all the math you want, amazon recruiter will screw you no matter what... And don't believe that 10/15% appreciation bullshit. The market will collapse and we all go back to farming

Best is to have (or make up) a believable competing offer. I'm not sure if recruiters can just shut the door. But they could turn the offer "final" at some point. They might still come back and knock at your door a few months later.. the question is, where are you at now? Is the Amazon brand name enough? If so, do it for 1 year on their final offer.

Probably true in most teams, but I’ve been here for 2 different stints (and in between I was at Google and then a startup). The best job I’ve had over my 17 year career so far :)
Who says you need to work for 10+ years? You work 2-5 years, get promoted 1-2 times, which allows you a good cushion of savings & resume boost to get into easier companies with better WLB.

This TC structure is the reason I will never consider Amazon. I don't know who with the proper sense of risk calculation would even bother. See how fast companies lay off employees during Covid? Why leave your earnings in the mercy of someone else?
In fact Amazon, at this time, is the best place to join. For the first 4 years, there’s nothing variable. You get paid what you agreed for and get to keep everything whenever you leave. Unless you didn’t negotiate in the beginning, hoping to make up for it later with refreshers!
I don't understand you. Isn't that true for all companies? My point was that if your employment end before year 3, you get nothing. And your employment ending sometimes us out of your control.
Why would there be a drop in years 3 and 4?
At 3rd and 4th year the 40% of rsus should make up for the he difference between base pay and TC. I am falling short by 10% when i calc the numbers for 3rd and 4th year. E.g. 168 rsus and 136k base i make 350k for first two years and then it drops to 318k for 3rd and 4th year
Interesting, wasn't like that when I started, but maybe theyve changed the new hire offer format now
