Do Amazon/AWS all-hands mention Azure/Oracle/Google if they have had a successful product than those competitors? E.g We have got more AWS users than Azure in last quarter.. etc?
Nope
Looked up 'wishful thinking' in the dictionary. Found OP's post.
Omg it was a honest question. Not wishing for Azure to surpass AWS or anything. Just a genuine thought I had!
If you've ever seen Jeff Bezos talk about Amazon, he'll say that Amazon is customer focused not competitor focused.
Amazon typically doesn’t obsess over the competition. We manage for inputs that eventually lead to (what we think) will be a great customer experience. The idea is that obsessing about this is much more effective, in the long run, than obsessing over what competitors did or didn’t do. The question we ask isn’t “do we have more customers than Azure?”, but rather “Are our customers getting everything they need from us?”. If the answer is yes, then all we need to do is watch as the product sells itself (and of course set up mechanisms for maintenance and support). This is why while AWS has a Sales team, they’re the least pushy sales team in the world; the product does a lot of their work for them. All they need to do is speak truthfully for it, without worrying about painting a bizarrely rosy picture just to score the account.
Strategically Amazon doesn’t mention or care about competition. Tactically yes, Amazon tries to “learn” from major or rising competitors.
Not entirely true. Jassy talks shit about Oracle screwing their customers over, but nothing beyond that
What is Oracle?
Never heard such a thing.
