I recently got to the background check process with Amazon (outside US) and now they need to check my previous employment history using Accural. However, in one of my previous role, I have changed my job title to what was more relevant to what I was doing on my resume rather than what was my formal title at the company (changed data analyst to software engineer cause everyone at that company is called data analyst as it was a generic title they gave to everyone..) So just wondering do they check the stuff on the resume or just the information you have provided to their outsourced background check company? I have both title listed on my resume, but they are for different period of times in that company, so could I just provide one for background check if all they care is how long I worked there? Or do they check every title on resume and not companies? Thanks!
Yes, they verify the real job titles. It could be nothing or it could be that they will retract your offer. It depends on how far did you go with your imaginary titles
I would say the job title I used on my resume described my responsibilities better, which is why I used it and my supervisor at the time also agreed I should use that title publicly (on company email signature etc)
Do you think this would be a big issue?
They don’t check job title, just if you worked there
Companies lie to employees all the time - for example in my hm at Amazon lied to me about my team having on call responsibilities... That said, I have a copy of my background check, an they only checked criminal history. The company they used was 'accurate'. Quit after 3 months lol.
Yeah op, can you share how this ended?
Any update ?
Did they end up checking your title? Any updates?
You deal with it by not making up fake job titles in the first place. 😀
