Looking at a role with Amazon based in Bay Area. Don’t mind working hard but wondering what culture is like for leaving at a normal hour (6ish) and then logging on later at night. Consulting companies frowned upon this in a prior life This is a product strategy / marketing role for AWS
Frowning on people leaving around 6?! Any employer doing that is a hard nope.
Your laptop is open next to their laptop.. kids have phones (not sure that counts?)
Yuck
You will end up like that fly on the wall unless you set the right expectations with your peers and your manager. If your manager doesn't agree with your flex times, look for a new team/manager.
lol no
Most of my team members and others SDEs on same floor leave around 6. I am SDE, not sure about marketing etc
100% your team. 6:15 on average. Sometimes goes till 7:30. Sometimes spend the last few hours drinking in the aisle.
My manager does not show up until 10am. So I send a few early messages on the chat and get to work at 9:59am. I leave at 6pm and I look like an over achiever. Butt in the seat is such a bad metric.
I come to work at 10:30. Leave at 6. I'm TT in my org. I don't work weekends unless I'm rarely bored. TC 250K.
That’s very unrealistic. You’ll need to work way more than that. Even if initially your manager agrees with your conditions, attrition is extremely high; so you’ll end up have to take on extra work as soon as your teammates start leaving. Switching teams is very unrealistic for newbies. If you have stock with your team for over 5 years very likely you’ll have a hard time interviewing internally and transferring.
Depends on the team. Wait, I’m not with Amazon. Okay, pass...
