These companies are polar opposites. Amazon being high stress, with a more startup oriented culture where things are wacky and wild wild west. Microsoft from what i have heard seems to be much relaxed and more of a stress free and rest and vest culture. I wonder how amazon employees fare when they move to Microsoft. Do they work the same amazonian way of working long hours and carrying over the same toxic culture which comes through application of BS LPs or do they just enjoy the less stress free life of Microsoft. Also for Microsoft employees who move to Amazon how do u fare in the different culture Tc: 200k
Don’t put Microsoft on a pedestal. Plenty of shit orgs with shit wlb and culture.
Plenty of good ones too with smart engineers and good culture
It depends on the team/org, even in Amazon. From my knowledge, it's the OE load that makes huge difference in making the team either shittiest or the best. Fortunately, my current team has ~zero OE load and leadership is always open to developing longer term solutions as opposed to short term hacks.
Almost two years in Amazon. Zero 2AM phone calls. It was a regular occurrence in Azure. Every place has their positives and negatives. Decide which ones you want to deal with.
Im talking about the general culture of the whole company, not some edge cases. Generally all teams at amazon are considered toxic with high attrition where as Microsoft as a whole hve a much better wlb
These companies are too large to be treated homogenously. Lots of internal variation.
+1 on Darth's comment.
Isn't this all very dependent on the team? I heard some parts of Azure isn't relaxed at all.
