Seems like the hunt for HQ2 was easy for Amazon (only 1 winner to be chosen from a sea of losers doing all the heavy lifting) so they decided to do something harder (and lost) https://tcrn.ch/2GjdeRO
Amazon got what it wanted.
Expect Bellevue to experience more growth
Soon Bellevue will do the same as it’s homeless population grows. After that what next? HQ3 .... HQn?
Tell that to Expedia...
It’s kind of funny to watch cities get shit loads of money, fail to solve a problem, and then demand more money to solve the problem again. Whatever money they’re going to get from Amazon isn’t going to solve, or even put a dent into, the homeless problem. This city is so incredibly incompetent at just about anything. The answer is always to raise taxes and throw more money at problems. It’d be quite comical if it wasn’t so sad.
This. Seattle is rolling in money. Huge, huge increase in property tax revenue in the past decade due to the rising assessments. The city has more money than it could possibly need yet they want to inflict pain on tech just because.
@Hooliganss: What specifically would you do to solve the homeless problem?
Non-techies got left behind so they voted socialist nut jobs into office. They don’t care about homeless. They just want to hate on Amazon.
Which is stupid because a lot of them work lower paying jobs at big companies like Starbucks and qfc where it will hurt them more...
Seattle can’t keep basic roads in decent conditions or figure out how to make a tunnel, but sure, it can fix homelessness. Right.
Lol amazon gonna be negative
It stems from their company culture which is cold and brutal. Seattle is too warm for them. If they want to move over the tax I suggest Minneapolis where they can hunker down with Target and get cosy
Waiting to pop the champagne 🍾 🥂 in anticipation of your departure. Seattle needs more responsible people/companies
How is amazon not responsible? Rather, what company is more responsible and what are the metrics here?
OP works at BlackBerry... not sure who sent them the invite. Not surprising that they don’t understand business or economics considering I forgot BlackBerry was even a company 5 years ago.
Typical response from someone who doesn’t like my post
Amazon will play the long game. The long game doesn’t matter to the SCC. The Eastside, FTW.
I’m pretty sure they had plans to open office in Bellevue prior to this tax being tabled. They just want to dominate the headlines and have their way which interestingly is something that Trump loves
Hard to see this as anything more than a business decision. They already have something like 40% of the office space in Seattle. Way too many eggs in one basket as it is.
