Gabriel relocation package Lump sump 8k vs Core policy ($2300 cash + Temp housing 45days + rental car for 45days) Relocating from India to Bay Area. Please provide your suggestions. Asking behalf of my friend. Edit: Flight + excess baggage upto $300 + airport tranfers covered in both policies.
Is this an internal relocation?
Yes it is internal transfer/relocation and he will be working for different team.
What about flying cost? Is it included in Core Policy?
They extend 45 days till the time shipment arrives and hence goes upto 60 to 75 days. Do the maths basis house rental. 300 for flight is wrong information posted here - there is actually no cap on flight and they give you options. 300 is for luggage
Yes you are right 300 for excess luggage and no cap on flight ticket. I received wrong info. Thanks for pointing
Flight ticket and excess baggage is common in both policy. Btw have you taken international relocation? Why would someone ship anything from India. 2 to 3 check in bag luggage’s should be good enough to move right?
Also you get taxi charges if you do not opt for rental which is some 1000 total for 30 days last I recall
Okay this is interesting.
Hey, I hope your move went smoothly. Curious, what were the tax implications. I believe amount spent towards your relocation will be added to your US salary so you would end up paying towards the tax. Did Amazon pay tax too? Or you had to pay it? Also, did it add any income to your India gross taxable income?

8k seems super low. Friends at Microsoft who moved to Redmond got excess of 20k. I’d rather take the policy in this case. At least there’s housing and a car.
Yes it is relatively low. I guess there is no scope of negotiations at this time. Rental car is of no use becoz he doesn’t drive.
If he also has a place to crash, like someone in Seattle who’d check out a flat/help with acco, then he should cash out. Btw - is this amount pre or post tax?
