I am going to interview with amazon identity services team. Any insights on the team and interview level? Is solving leetcode medium level problem enough? SDE2
50% of success are your leadership principles
Can confirm. Amazon takes leadership very seriously.
Best way to prepare for leadership principles questions?
Read them on our amazon jobs site. Think of examples for every one. Each answer should emphasize YOUR SPECIFIC action in the anecdote. And you should have a measurable result.
+1 (ex Amazon here) do this on a word doc or something. Think of it as a homework assignment they never told you you have to do.
Ya write them down on doc using the STAR framework. They also like to hear it in that form. And then practice to keep it short as possible - precise and concise. They like to ask deeper follow up questions, and you want to give them time to ask that.
Stay on topic. Don't ramble about other experiences or facts irrelevant to the question
Not Enough...Do revise your oops and distributed concepts for LLD and HLD. And behavioral questions like why Aws identity only?? LP questions and project you did.
I was told by both my recruiter and my referrer that they take Leadership Principles very seriously and I was still surprised by how often those questions came up. To give you an idea: four 45-minute interviews back to back. In each interview, the interviewer spent close to half the allotted time asking me questions related to LPs or my past experiences and how they can be tied to LPs. In 2 cases where leetcode-type questions were asked, I barely had 20 minutes to solve them. Honestly, non-LP questions felt like an afterthought. "So we're out of LPs questions, let's do this quick leetcode problem so I know you can write code" sort of thing. The algorithm questions were leetcode medium and similar to what were in the online assessment. You just don't have much time to come up with a solution, discuss it with your interviewer, write bug-free code and also test your code. Make sure you time yourself when practicing for interviews.
Interviewers are asked to ask only standard questions on LP, there is a inside wiki which has all questions. Prepare a story for each LP, you are half done. Keep on telling and talking about LPs and kill time so that they will have only few mins for code.
I'm looking to leave the identity group, a SDE2. It's not fun to listen to user/admin scenarios and being an afterthought for customers. We are the friction that makes programmers, users and admins cry. It's an old org as well. Make sure you are aware of your interests when joining.
