I received bbg offer couple weeks back around 270+30tc. Was a bit overwhelmed and accepted without negotiation. Amazon offer came in late, my intention was to use it as backup anyway, because it’s amazon. Though I got matched to a pretty interesting team with decent manager (someone in my network personally knows the hm), the L5 offer with bbg comparison is the following: The extra money is the first two years, 3rd and 4th are about the same if stock price stays at 3200/share Initial: 40k > bbg, I rejected without thinking 2nd: 70k > bbg, still rejected because worried about culture and peer pressure. 3rd: 100k > bbg. Now I am hesitating, both team are interesting and promising. Aws wins out on career growth into other techs, bbg obvious would have much better wlb and less peer pressure, but 100k is 100k! Is renegotiating a good option??? Updated: 1.25M/4 years Amazon 1.11M/4 years Bloomberg Any advices are greatly appreciated!! #amazon #Bloomberg
They have a pool going on you … the ideal “pip” hire 😂just joking. Do what feels best to you and your gut.
If you take Amazon, understand that you are committing to 4 years at Amazon, otherwise that TC is nowhere near 400. 40% RSUs vest in 4th year IIRC. Having said that 400k extra over 4 years is definitely tempting.
Wtf 400k TC for L5? What location?
It’s about 680 for the first two years. Probably misunderstood my friend
Whats this new calculation of x TC for 2 years? Just do the math and you will get your avg TC per year. Amazon TC will be highest for year1 and then a little lower for year2 and so on. Year 3 and 4 will be lower because they expect 15% stock growth. Just keep it at 0% growth and calculate your TC per year.
can you break down your comp ?
amz is really king now, no one can compete, even it’s own employees lolll
YOE?
5
Jesus, Amazon is tier 1 now just because of the pay per YOE.
True tiers are determined by how well known and successful the company's products are. You might work at Jane Street or Citadel and earn 600k a year, but you are losing out on your life and no one has even heard of your employers. This is why I've always considered Microsoft among tier 1, even the remotest areas in Africa know about them and use their machines. Amazon is a household name across the world as well and the opportunities are endless. Google and FB just got popular because of their free food and the prestige just followed with good pay. FB especially is surviving merely by buying other companies like Instagram, WhatsApp- FB as a social network itself is failing. Personally, never considered Netflix among the top employers. They are too small to be considered among big tech. They're probably in Uber/Lyft/Airbnb league.
Google is popular because of free food? 🤔
OP, what's your actual offer breakdown for Amazon? I think the bracket is 350k for L5 and 500k for L6. Noone stays for full 4 years anywhere, and it's unclear what your 1y TC is. The best part about Amazon offers is the monthly vesting during first year for majority of your TC, since it's mostly cash.
About 360+320 first two years
Which location? It's hilarious it's already 360k when it was reported that 350k was the top of the bracket just a few weeks ago! I got just below 250k last year, although in MCOL.
Amazon can pip you within 7 months, and your calculation is worthless. I was top performer for 20y. Pipped by amzn in9months. Dont do it. Bloomberg was the best company i ever worked in
That’s the exactly what I am worrying about. If it’s another company I will say yes on the second offer
Year 1 TC is mostly base+cash bonus, and that's paid out monthly, so how's the calculation worthless? OP, is the base 185? What's the cash bonus for Y1 and Y2?
So bbq 300 and amzn 400??
Two year period
Try to find the average tenure of an sde Heard a rumor on blind that it's less than two years, no idea if it's true or not but hard to trust that the Amazon tc will be something you're really willing to stick with or will be happy with when you finally reach it.
