Hi all, I recently received an update from the amazon University recruiting team that I am on wait list. And I will be offered the position as requirements open up. I had a few questions about this. 1. Does this mean that I am being offered the job for sure although the Period is unknown? 2. How does hiring for new grad work, will it work out if I directly reach out to any engineer manager and he wants to hire me for his team. 3. How long could be the waiting period?
Why don't you ask your recruiter these questions?
That's very vague. I would follow up with the recruiter for clarity and I would keep interviewing elsewhere until you have a concrete offer in hand.
Keep interviewing elsewhere even if you did have an offer in hand. Other offers is the best way to negotiate for a higher salary. Very few users of your tone will have a higher impact on earnings.
Don't hold your breath with Amazon. Very large and disorganized. Either follow up with recruiter or keep applying. I applied for a position with Amazon, went through 3 interviews (initial call, interview call, on site) and 2 days before on-site interview recruiter calls and changed the position even though I've been practicing for the initial position. Though I thought I did well on that on-site interview despite last minute changes of the position and lack of preparation time, I ultimately didn't get an offer. No feedback as to what I did wrong either. So I'd say reach out to the recruiter and make sure they answer all your questions. Quite disappointed at their hiring process, but not surprised
Interns/New grads don’t really have a point of contact with a recruiter until they have an offer from my experience (I’m interning this Summer). They basically filled their headcount is what it means and you need to wait till people renege/reject on their offers which may or may not happen. Amazon usually hires till April/May for new grad though..so not really sure why there is a waitlist. I know interns have been getting waitlisted like crazy since late December now. Are you international OP?
Yes.
What my confusion is that are these wait list for filling the spots for people who reject offers or for new positions which might open up for Q1.

Avoid teams with only Chinese or Indians especially with a Chinese/Indian manager
It means don't count on them, keep interviewing.
