Hey guys, Recently got an offer for new grad SWE at Amazon in Tempe, AZ even though I applied for their Seattle office. Has anyone tried negotiating location and been successful? The FAQs seem pretty inflexible on salary and location. :/
You can definitely negotiate and mail. I know some of my friends who got into Seattle stating family reasons
My family is in Phoenix but I prefer to live away from family and in Seattle instead. Is making up an excuse unethical? Or if I just state that I prefer Seattle for family reasons (but I assume that they would know where my family lives)
Like what kind of reasons
Typically Amazon does not negotiate for new grad positions
You work at Microsoft and got a new grad offer from Amazon? Are they hiring entry level experienced folks as well?
I don’t think so. I was a Microsoft intern so still in college

Worried that our top performer is an attrition risk. How do managers handle this?
Usually before getting the offer they ask you if you have a preference for a particular place to go. If this isn’t the case, talk to your recruiter. Don’t be afraid to ask if this offer can be in another place.
They changed the policy this year so you can only change locations if you decline the offer and get put on a waitlist for the location you want to be in.
