I got an offer from Amazon L5 data scientist. Need some help comparing my current TC with Amazon. Update: got offer from Facebook Amazon: Seattle Base:160k Bonus: 80k first year, 70k second year Rsu: 55 Current: Retail wholesale club ( remote in Connecticut) Title: Manager, data science Base: 155k Bonus: 15% of salary( expected at least 50k this year due to company performance) Another offer from Facebook Title: IC4 product data scientist (remote) Base: 154k Bonus: 10% RSU: 45k per year for next 4 years I am not sure if I will be downgrading if I take IC4 at Facebook. My first interview at Facebook wasn’t good, so they won’t interview me for IC5 Any help will be appreciated. #amazon #tc #facebook
Are you an actual people manager? If so dont downgrade. Its easier to get in FAANG than moving up to management
Not a people manager. But, if I perform well owning projects and assets, in 6months to 1year I will manage 2 DS at least
Definitely transition into management role as early in your career as possible. If you can crack amazon DS you can crack DSM later
Why didn’t you interview for people management position?
I did not interview for the manager role at my current company. I was a senior ds, but the manager role was vacant and they asked if I am interested.
That is the highest offer I have seen for an L5 DS at Amazon. Infact it’s more than some of the L6 DS make at Amazon
I think it’s because my current role has a high total comp in a tier 2 city and they want me to move to Seattle
Does 40 RSUs translate to around $132,000 based on current stock value?
Yes, and they increased it to 55 after negotiations
