Amazon onsite - who's the bar raiser

Jun 24, 2019 49 Comments

Had onsite last Friday, trying to figure out who the bar raiser was. Also waiting on feedback, nothing yet from recruiter.

4 rounds 1 hr each

1. LP + design. Called over phone. Different team.
2. LP + algos. Same team, so probably not bar raiser?
3. Hiring manager. Strictly LP, ended 30mins early and we just had small talk.
4. LP + design & implementation. Different team. Had 1 guy shadow him. Shadow was from hiring team

I'm guessing it's 4? Also sort of nervous that 3 ended so early. I asked and HM just said he/she got all the answers needed. True or just didn't want to waste time?

#4. The shadow was the bar raiser in training. The interviewer was bar raiser.

Amazon onsite usually has 5 sessions. Did they skip a session for you? Are you a grad?

Thanks! The offer was really good, 2.5x of my previous TC.
Hope you'll get positive news too!

Most likely 4th was the BR with the BR in training shadowing. No point thinking about that now though. Also such short interview with HM is not a great sign

Of course. HM would have had a list of questions to talk through with you. If he cut some short or didnot havelot of follow up questions on your answers it means your examples were not strong. It can also mean that you killed with such super replies that he had no follow up questions and was thoroughly impressed in just 30 minutes. More likely that it wasn’t a great interview

Doesn't sound good, because HM makes the final decision. If the person is interested in you, he/she would ask a lot of follow ups. What did you do/say to make the person cut you short?

You already did the interview. What's the point of figuring out now?

Was any of them different team AND org? That’s how I spotted my bar raiser. Also he just had a vibe like he interviewed all the time and loved it
