Yeah. Logical and maintainable is oop and clean code. Naming, method lengths, class structures, etc.

System Design is not used for SDE 1 positions as SDE 1 is essentially a new grad/low experience. What's happening is you're technically applying for an SDE 2 role, but they will accept downgrading for an SDE 1 if they do well in the other areas.

Are you sure maybe it's an org to org thing? My friends friend (who interviewed for Alexa) got an actual system design for sde1. I have 10 months of experience out of school (not including internships) I think I qualify for the low experience, but lo and behold.

Yup - SD is not for SDE 1 interviews. I have 100+ SDE interviews and SD only makes it into SDE 1 loop if they want to assess at SDE 2 but will take a SDE 1 if the rest of their coding and leadership principles are solid.

When is your interview

IBM LeavingIBM OP Jun 9, 2019

I'm still waiting for scheduling sent them some dates a week ago waiting for confirmation on the actual day (so I haven't had my final recruiter call yet)

Vanguard ubercool9 Jun 9, 2019

Oh okay. What did they ask you in the phone screen? I have one with aws as well.

I was asked sudoku solver

Microsoft UseDeFeet Jun 9, 2019

That’s some basic shit.

IBM ut3d4 Jun 9, 2019

Good luck, I’m interviewing at Amazon soon too. Got that same list of things to prepare for.

IBM LeavingIBM OP Jun 9, 2019

Are you also <=1 YOE?

IBM ut3d4 Jun 9, 2019

2 years exp on the sde1 loop I believe. Not actually sure though

Amazon trummp Jun 9, 2019

I didn't know that we send all these details to candidates

IBM LeavingIBM OP Jun 9, 2019

Had my onsite recently fair warning. The behavioral questions get repetitive and I was struggling to find new answers. Also there was about 3-4 per round instead of one. Got tired of talking about myself.

IBM hj35d Jun 13, 2019

That’s crazy. I have an on site coming up. Guess I should prepare some extra stories about myself.
