Got a rejection for an SDE role, but got an invite to attend Technical program manager interview since system design and LP's were strong. Confused on what to do. Any suggestions?
Do you want to become tpm?
I am a developer now and don’t have much idea about that role. I have other SDE interviews coming up, so not sure if I should take time to prepare for this.
Tpm is very different from sde. If you goal to to go to amazon and later move to sde, find out feasibility to do that. I would say retry amazon after 6 months. Amazon contacts only LinkedIn every week.
What is LP? 😳
I have an on-site coming up. How did you prepare for LP questions?
real examples from work actually. use STAR format to answer.
If you don’t have project manager or TPM experience you may get rejected as there will be one round with questions fully focused on project management, stakeholder and conflict mgmt. whatever you choose, good luck 👍 with that
Thats exactly what i was thinking. I might not succeed in a focussed TPM interview since i don't have background.
if you want to be coding day to day, TPM is not for you.
U can be an annoying tpm and code just to piss devs 😭
You will fail as tpm if you have not enuf experience in leading ppl
Do you have any insight on TPM interview?. Is it solving system design on all rounds?
From what I remember one round was design question around the architecture worked on prev job and another round was a design problem at amazon. The other two were completely LPs. You would get down leveled if you are not strong in design but straight reject if you fail the LPs
U know better than most as ur LP was strong. Go for it.
