YOE: 3.8 years Have a master degree outside Canada in finance. Just got an SDE1 offer (pending number) from Amazon Vancouver. Current job: Developer at a finance institution in Calgary. TC including yearly bonus: 123K Daily job: creating some in house client facing solution (not real fintech) and other application supporting Potential: turned to full time employee this year or in 1 or 2 years (no agreement on paper for this) and get around 150k per year, yearly salary growth nearly to nothing from here. Until you get a piece or private ownership of company (god knows when for an IT position here), then you get a lot more (I don't know number yet). Guys where do you think I should go from here? What other things should I keep in mind? #amazon #finance
If you don't like the Alberta winters, then by all means move to Vancouver. But if you ask me, you're selling yourself short as an SDE 1. With 4 years of experience I think you should really try for SDE 2 even if that means interviewing again in 6 months. If you do go to Amazon then do research your team, e.g. don't go to DEX (Delivery Experience) in Vancouver, it's a total shitshow. Yard Tech is good as are the AWS teams. If your current job is mostly support and you want to develop your career, then Amazon is a no-brainer. Just go for it.
I interviewed for sde 2... Unfortunately got downgraded, since I guess I didn't ace the coding part.... It will be aws team if it is not against the NDA.
Not exactly full support, but I feel like our product is only serving for the business so actually all application are more like serving as a supporting purpose...
