So I cleared the online test with all tests passing. I’m still being asked to do a phone interview, despite the recruiter saying that a successful online test would lead to an onsite. Is this common?
Very common , should be an easy / medium LC question along with some leadership question
You probably didn't have optimal solutions or messed up in your explanation part. For me, I passed OA and didn't get a phone screen.
Which means you went onsite directly? How was the on-site? How many rounds?
Havent gone through onsite yet, have them soon.
Usually the online testing system can recommend direct onsite based on perf. But do you think we’re robots and always going to do what the system suggests (assuming that it happened in your case)? Don’t be surprised even if you might need to do two phone screens. Seen this a lot! Bringing for onsite is a big decision for many budget constrained teams (who are not making money).
Gotcha. That makes sense. Was just expecting a linear process given that the online test was offered as an alternative to the phone. My concern isn’t the extra interview, but more that I may have messed up something and could use that as a working point for the next interview.
Don’t worry. It will not matter any more. Focus on the phone screen! Best of luck!

Why are you scared to do a phone screen. It’s an opportunity for you to judge the team/HM before you go onsite and end up realizing you were not a good fit!
