Amazon product life

Accepted PM-T role at Amazon. How’s the work culture? New to Product management at big tech. Was working at startup and acquired skills on the job. Will there be mentioning at Amazon? What’s on-boarding like? Are colleagues supportive?

Get used to writing a lot of docs. People May 💩 on your docs, but don’t let that get to you. 2c.

Any tips to get accustomed to documentation? Resources?

There are internal classes and examples of good docs that your team should be able to provide. Outside of that it just takes lots of practice and feedback. Start early, get feedback early.

Welcome to the world of Document Writer. You can apply your skills to write “narratives” which can be used for Amazon Prime styled dramas.

I am generally optimistic but what are the downsides?

Your career will primarily depend on whether you can write well or not. Pretty much what determines who gets promoted and who doesn't among PMs.

Thank you for the insight.

Congrats! The fact that you were at a start up is good since depending on your level, you will need to jump right in. Work culture depends on your group and manager. My colleagues are supportive and nice. It can range quite a bit depending on group. You’ll definitely do a ton of writing!
