Amazon recruiting: please prepare better before emailing

Apr 23, 2020 5 Comments

Twice this month I got emails from amazon recruiters saying my profile (what profile? I havent applied in like 4 years and wasnt experienced enough to get an interview; plus my LI is blank) was “shortlisted” and they are “rapidly hiring”.

I let curiosity get the best of me and reply with a simple “Im interested lets set up a time” but get no response. I sent a bunch of follow ups and got no reply. Either they dont know what shortlist means or theyre sending emails to the wrong people. Ive been “shortlisted” for google before too and was on site the next week with constant communication with a recruiter so why cant amazon have the same flow?

I get that its covid-pocalypse right now but this also happened a lot last year and seems to be just my experience with amazon particularly so im starting to think this is just their culture to be generally unprepared or have sloppy outreach protocols.

  • When I interviewed at Amazon:

    - Recruiter A reached out similar to your experience above.
    - Recruiter A wanted me to interview for a Bay Area location, I informed I was only interested in a different location. Recruiter A transferred me to Recruiter B.
    - Literally on the morning of my on-site at location preference, Recruiter A emailed me like your experience above, as if we had never talked already, for a Bay Area location
    - I ultimately took FB offer 🤷‍♀️

Sloppy is an understatement. The title usually look like a last minute scam sale.
“Congratulations, hiring manager personality selected your profile, hiring fast”
    And ghost you. It’s incredible

    For me:
    - I applied online
    - received first recruiter email 2 weeks later
-worked with 3 or 4 different recruiters to schedule phone screen, on site loop with travel etc
-loop completed, offer extended in less than 72hrs after onsite
-total process took about 6 weeks. Really the only issue was a couple of the recruiters didnt notice timezone differences.

    For me:
    - recruiter reached out on linkein
    - attended two rounds of interviews. Wast told further rounds will happen within a week.
    - No response for a couple of weeks.
    - Sudden message one day asking me to come the following day for next rounds.
    - Had no availability that week. Scheduled it on weekend (quite normal for India).
    -No further response
    - got mass message from same guy to interview with Amazon (from the scratch)

Luckily got an offer from Google shorty after and joined.

Looking at comments on blind, I think I dodged a bullet. (I am not someone who handles stress very well)
