Is there anyone in Blind community who left Amazon before completing two years (but after completing one year) and had to payback a prorated amount of relocation benefit? How much time does Amazon give to pay it back? Is it possible to negotiate a payment plan with them? Do they threaten to sue if you don’t respond or say you can’t pay it back? Do they ever send it to collections? Thanks.
They can take from your last paycheck
Excalibur1...I'm interviewing with AMZN soon...so I want to know why you are leaving so soon?
The most fucked up workplace on earth. 80% of people leave within 2 years (before stock vesting).
I am not an SDE. In my case, it’s a poor fit between my goals and the current work. Unfortunately internal transfer opportunities are also limited in my specific case. Your experience can vary greatly depending on the team. So it all comes down to that.
I don’t think you have to pay back relocation money if you stay for more than a year.
I have heard that but don’t know the validity of it. My offer letter says i will have to return prorated amount if i leave before 2nd anniversary. Even the recruiter at the company i am interviewing is saying that Amazon will not ask for payback after 1 yr of employment. So i am not sure if Amazon is laid back if somebody leaves after a year.
What does your offer letter say?
It’s the same with relocation and sign on
I left, negotiated a 12 month payment plan.
You can ask the new company to pick up the cost. They will probably just bump your signing bonus if you can provide documentation. In your case the offer letter.
Do you mind sharing what the resolution was? Were you able to negotiate paying back your relocation? Any tips you can share from your experience would be much appreciated
Had to pay back relocation. About 5.5k back
30 days from your end date. Not sure on the rest since I repaid it but it was definitely a hefty amount
How long were you at Amazon? Over a year?
Yeah 13 months
