I will join Amazon SF in August, and I am planning to move to Burlingame from Palo Alto, I was told from my friend that moving less than 50 miles cannot get relocation package, then I did not ask for it when I accepted the offer. But now I realize I need to buy new furniture and I wanna get support from Amazon(I currently live with family, so I do not have my own furniture). Is it possible to request relocation package or get reimbursement in this case?

IRS defines relocation as greater than 50 miles. I doubt it if Amazon will pay you for furniture. You could have negotiated higher sign on to cover but probably too late now

Relocation does cover furniture.. I got the lump sum ($7k post tax). You can buy whatever with that Furniture is definitely not just $1k. Even if you shop at IKEA. I'm pretty good at finding deals and new furniture cost me: $600 for bed frame, $600 for mattress $250 for dresser, $200 for desk $500 for couch, $50 for computer chair $40 for night stand, $40 for media stand
