Does Amazon allow remote work for it’s employees permanently? I am going to join Amazon, but due to personal problems I may not be able to relocate for good to Seattle. I am thinking to work for only 6 months to 8 months and would like to explore my options for remote work. I do not want to miss the oportunity to work at Amazon. Hence I do not want to ask my recruiter or my HM about the possiblity of remote work even before joining. Are there any specific teams in Amazon that allow remote work? If Amazon does not allow remote work then which other companies could possibly allow it’s employees working remotely? TC: 165K
I've know one guy that's completely remote for Intuit, I know several people that are completely remote for Adobe.
Not aware of SDEs that are WFH, but many Solutions Architects (Sales Engineers) are, granted with heavy travel.
This isn’t usually an option, but it can happen. For example, if you are the only member of a geographically dispersed team working in a particular office, you can often work from home when you want or even officially just drop your desk.
In my team there are 2 people working from home like that. One is PE who usually just attend meetings and other is a sde2 who had to move to California for personal reasons and has been wfh since 4 months with no issues. I recommend bringing this up with your manager.
Thanks. Will check with my manager in 6 months
You should ask the manager before starting. Some are in no way amenable to it. Some velieve it can't work. Others I know admit they don't have the time to learn how to effectively manage remote workers and would just rather hire local which they often can. That said once you "earn trust" with most managers it can be easy to start easing into remote work. But that's not a guarantee. PE is a high level role that most people don't reach, and managers make plenty of special considerations for PEs, so I wouldn't really count this in your evaluation. The whole PE and higher role is very choose your own adventure.
Amazon graciously allows wfh post 8 hours per day of work at office.
😂
Ifs allowed on weekends
It’s called remote work, not “Permanent WFH” 🙄. Please update title.
I thought WTF reading the title.
Updated.
One of the SDE2s on my old team moved and now works remotely without any issues, and got promoted to SDE3 while remote.
But wait, Blind told me that Amazon is evil and PIPs everyone who doesn't work from the office a minimum of 30 hours per day
🤣
Usually they allow people to permanently WFH or from remote offices if you are important for the team. 6-8 months presence might not be enough but worth asking your manager. If you have not yet accepted the offer, this would be a good point to negotiate in exchange of lesser salary.
Thanks. I am really worried if Amazon rescinds my offer and they already applied for my H1B (waiting for that to be approved). Also personally I prefer to stay with the team and work closely with the team for sometime.
