How much am I leaving on the table by being in Amazon? My TCT this year is 240K (148K/120RSU/70Kbonus) @4YOE as a SDE2 in Bay Area. I feel like I'm working hard and I'm TT but I have a slight feeling that I would been compensated better in FB and G for the things I accomplished. For my promotion all I got was an extra 20K to my salary... No refresher yet and it's been 1.7 years in Amazon already... I enjoy my work but I just want more. What do you think?
I'm not happy that people are telling me to be happy with what I have đ¤¨. Why??
Because at your yoe your doing fantastic in Bay Area. And u think ur not. So
For those saying I'm leaving greater than 50K on the table, do you have a more accurate amount in mind? Please be honest...
If you qualify as an E5 or L5 hire, you cloud get a comp of $350k per year. As an E4 you could get up to 300k including sign-on bonus the first year, and about 300k accounting for refresher+stock growth next year, and so on. That's still more than 50k above your comp of 240k
^Okay yeah that makes sense... Is it the same for L4 at G?
If you get to L6 your comp will be competitive or even greater than google. Big reason being it's harder to get promoted in google, plus the SDE3 scope is larger than L5 at Google (usually)
In which org is that? I am sde3 and my comp is almost the same as TT sde2.
@couldbe What's TT?
One reason to be grateful is that compared to 95% of the rest of the world, youâre rich. Thereâs only one way to know for sure - interview and find out. If youâre underpaid, bounce. If you fail the interviews, see point 1. There will always be people who make more than you do. There will also be people who donât and say they do. Find your inner peace and enjoy life. Youâve been dealt a top 5% or better hand enjoy the ride.
You are not going to get more than 260-280k TC at FB as an E4. They might give you a one time signing bonus to lure you. Honestly, if you are a TT L5 at 3 YOE it means your manager has faith in you and wants to move you to L6 within the next 12-18 months. You would be a fool to walk away from that for a signing bonus and maybe making E5 at FB.
Yeah FB isn't really as interesting to me as G. Mainly for the WLB.
I donât think your total is lagging...maybe the distribution of cash and bonus might be different! Personally I prefer large bonuses in a lump sum - but just my opinion
Yeah the distribution is fucked in Amazon. 5 / 15 / 40 / 40 says it all...
With 3 YOE you can easily make around 300K if you switch.
Uh... how? You mean E4 or L4@G? People here are literally telling me they earn below 300..
I have seen new grads being offered 260 at Fb, 250 at Airbnb and 230 at LinkedIn (all including signing bonus and Masters degree). So with 3 YOE these companies should be able to touch 300k, though you will need mutiple offers.
10yoe with LinkedIn, Google, and FB experience here, you probably won't break 300k until high L4 (read: multiple exceeds plus multiple refreshers), I was hovering around 250k for 4 years due to jumping companies to follow my dreams, it's not always about money but if you want to maximize it NEVER take an offer at or below your current level/TC. I did that at G (came in at the top of L4) and didn't get a raise or meaningful equity for 2 years.
As arrogant as this may sound...if I can get TT in Amazon, I feel I can easily get the TT equivalent in Google which should mean a refresh every year right? I could be completely wrong since I have no idea what Google work is like.
