which of the companies has a higher hiring bar for SDE2+ (L61) levels? I thought Microsoft had a better hiring bar. But recently I saw some cartoons getting hired at Microsoft, now I believe Amazon is better.
I interviewed at both for that level exactly, got both offers. If I'm using my Google onsite interview (done in the same time period) to normalize things, then from my personal experience I think Amazon has lowered its hiring bar quite a bit and raised expectations to compensate. So they'll let you in but if you dont cut it, they wont hesitate to cut you. Something seemed very odd about their culture to be honest.
I think it is a fair game. They give you a chance, if you prove you continue, not good bye. It is probably cheaper this way, rather than spending a lot of time and money on hiring.
I've seen cartoons getting hired at Google as well! May be all 3 are same shit.
Create your own poll in that case. π
Cartoons are a very important metric for deciding who had the best hiring bar.
Scooby Dooby Doooo π
Microsoft's hiring bar is higher but only because Amazon is more willing to take a risk hiring somebody marginal and if they don't work out firing them. Once you're in each company, Amazon expectations are higher.
Amazon bar is higher because one needs to prepare fake LP stories and make them sound real
Amazon's hiring bar as well as salaries are way way higher than microsoft. Amazon is Fang company which is elite league and everyone dreams to be in it. Microsoft on other hand is a moderate company and people come here as a second criteria when they are not able to get in fang.
One data point: I can confirm my Amazon interview was harder than Microsoft. However Microsoft was a better place to work overall. So my lesson was that the difficulty of the interview doesnβt predict anything about working somewhere.
Lol Amazon is a joke, they have stupidest policy and is overall a toxic place to work. We have good engineers agreed but the bar is going to rock bottom now

Both have similar and high bar
Lol. Good one
Actually, both have different but high bar. Microsoft leans heavily on technical skills, Amazon on behavioral.
