Ok now time for final showdown. Here are the numbers

Current TC: 32Base + 5 Bonus

Amazon SDE2 TC: 34Base + 11JB First year and 7 JB Second Year. + 15Rsu
Average: 45L per year.

Microsoft SDE2 L61 TC: 25Base + 5+5 JB for 2 years + 50K$ stock for 4 years + 10-20% Bonus
Average TC: 40L per year. Might be a cliff after 2 years.

YoE: 2y

Some other points to note.
1. Microsoft unwilling to negotiate. Seems they want anyone for the role and experience till now has been unprofessional. TC is significantly a joke, where definitely they can give more on stocks at this level.
2. Amazon surprisingly extremely professional experience. Hiring manager is going above the way to want me and keeps checking in with me. The team is a very new team working in IoT related technologies so very low on-call load. Manager seems to like me a lot since day 1 as he had reached out to me himself and got me into the interview pipeline.

What do you do here. Looking for sound advice. I fear PiP in Amazon but I had an open discussion with the manager on this and he said you are the last one that should be worried about this. Manager seems way too cool for Amazon standards.
Also in the future have plans to move abroad, manager said Seattle move is possible if you want it post a year.

Would love some sound advice. Thanks Blind community. #engineering #software #sde2

In case if you are afraid of pip, I have been with Amazon for 7 years. Worked in India and USA both with 5 different teams. I have never worried about pip even once during this time. I have seen a single case of pip till date in my team and I know that person was weak and was struggling since more than a year. I have seen people working just 6-7 hours and still doing fine. Obviously some times there will be more work hence you will be clocking more hours.
WLB at Microsoft might be better than Amazon but I would suggest do not worry about pip.

  • Based on your question, I think you have already made the choice. Good luck at Amazon!

No one wants to join Amazon currently. Teams are struggling to hire engineers for months. Toxic af place. I know people getting pipped 6-8 months into the job joining from university.
No wonder the manager is going above and beyond to get you. He sure has his ass on the line.

Amazon's mobility is the best. If the plan is to move aboard, stick with Amazon.

  • If the manager is being extra nice, be careful. He might be just looking for someone to pip in the upcoming cycle. Choose Microsoft and save yourself.

    • Amazon is same everywhere. It's a trade-off. For better wlb, accept lesser TC.
I would suggest, take Microsoft, study for G or FB and then make a move there or start a YouTube channel/other source of income. While being at amazon you will be loaded with work and cannot prepare for other exams.

Yeah no such thing as less PIP in India. The policy is the same everywhere. You hear more about US because most of the demographic here is from US.
