I have offers from Alexa skills team (tc 160k+) and Microsoft cloud services (150k+). Which option is better for new grad to relaunch the career (have 2+ years of work experience back in India)?
Alexa skills team is a mess. I don’t think you’ll learn too much. That said from just a money standpoint the MS offer is better. Benefits are worth way more than the gap in comp.
Mess means work is not good or issue is with the team?
Actually MS compensation comes close to 147 while amazon is giving 172 if include relocation bonus too. Isn’t 25k too much to ignore?
Go with Amazon and the higher TC
Amazon. Change teams after joining
change team after join
Is Alexa skills team really bad??
Depends on which skill..
Alexa overall is actually good
Given where you are in your career trajectory I would pick Amazon. No other company gives you so much scope early on - it will be tough but I think the ride is worth it.
Amazon but I’m biased. Don’t listen to people counting the pennies difference. Look long term and see where you’ll want to be with the tech skills you’ll get. Build those core competencies, and become a thought leader. Then divest your skills in the next hot startup idea and become your own boss. Bam you’re THE guy who fucks.
Microsoft, too many folks mentioning on blind about going on PIP.
I’m from an Alexa org, and I actually quite like it. People in my org have all been super nice, wlb balance is great. I would recommend amazon as a good place to work as an SDE1, it seems like if you are able to grow you can make a lot of impact pretty early on in your career here. Microsoft seems great too, and benefits are better but I can’t imagine culture or wlb being much different. A lot of Microsoft employees on blind seem to think they are above Amazon, though from what I can tell the hiring bars are near identical, as are the total compensation packages. People tend to jump between those two companies quite frequently also so I see a lot of amazon employees that started at Microsoft
Have actually calculated the tc accurately. The 401k match, and other benefits, itself should bring the TCS much closer if not make msft higher. Overall msft is a better place to work all things being equal.
