Hello Blind Community, I just graduated with a Master's degree and stuck between two job offers. Amazon(new grad SDE), location - Seattle 112k, 80k stock over 4 years, 26k, 22k first year and second year bonus OCI(SDE 2, IC2), location - Seattle 140k, 200k stock over 4 years, 20k sign on Amazon is applying for my H1-B this year and OCI told they could not do it this year because the offer letter takes 4 weeks time and immigration teams deadline is feb 1. Can you please share your thoughts? #OCI #Amazon #H1-B
Difference is too big - and there is no advantage to go with Amazon vs OCI. My advise would be to go with OCI.
Being an immigrant student, I have 3 chances to apply for H1-B visa and I loose one chance now with OCI...any thoughts on this?
It’s entirely up to you - I’m on an H1B as well - but I don’t think you should plan your career around a visa.
Congrats OP. Can I DM you for your interview experience with OCI?
Leetcode easy-medium, one design and one behavioral:)
Thanks. OOP design or System design? And How did you prepare for the design round?
Amazon, your h1b is important . And it’s red flag that OCI has a deadline of Feb 1 because most good companies will not have such deadlines
Accept Amazon. Loosing 1 H1B chance is a big deal, which no money can buy.
Last year I joined Oracle in the month of March. But I had spoken to my manager regarding the H1B need and it is my priority. So my team spoke with the legal team and I had uploaded all required documents by Feb 1st week. Later joined the team and it was a smooth transition.
@OP try to talk to the team and your dielemma. They will definitely help you
Why would you even consider the Amazon job? Its such a slave labor camp, and for what, so Jeff can get an extra billion, not pay taxes, everyone can be unhappy and create their own crappy copies of slack, jira etc? Easy call.
Haha..seems like you would not even buy stuff from amazon.com
OCI is better than Amazon if you like to be paid well and treated as if you are valued.
Are you in OCI? Im just curious, dont mind. What about layoff news at OCI? Is there any truth to that?
I thought someone already posted this yesterday. I wouldn’t pick OCI at any cost. It’s dying.
Could you please give some more insight about what you mean by "it's dying"
I mean it’s like Nokia trying to come back at Apple and Samsung after 2012. It’s too late in the game now and Amazon, GCP and Azure are going to crush it.
