A few years back when Amex had a low performance rating they stopped giving pay bumps within the same band level. That means if you went from manager to senior manager you get nothing. Someone told me as recently as a few months back, this was still the case. Can any directors or anyone who recently became a Senior Manager confirm? This will impact my external search as I’m already underpaid as it is and I am not settling. I need to get a significant bump to stay (I will ask to be paid at parity with others in my business group).
How can you get to senior manager from manager with low performance rating? It only depends on tenure?
In terms of the company rating, if they do well you can still get promoted as long as you as an individual did well. Company ratings impact your bonus multiplier. My personal ratings were great, so that’s not an issue. Amex had an amazing year and the corporate tax cut saved them billions so there’s no excuse to skimp now. I’m looking for roles with analysts I can supervise. I want to become a director after my next role.

You go first.
this shit has been going on since 2019?
Us B40 here. From what I remember it's very minimal, maybe 5%. Check the Square, I think the guidance is documented there. I'd recommend external if TC is a motivator.
Can you share b40 range? I feel tc are so variable at amex?

If you’re internal, you can ask your director/VP that question. They should be honest about it. As for underpaid, it’s all relative. Depends on who you are comparing to - FB, G, etc. True. But then you would be working there if you have the skills. Compare to other industries, it’s pretty on par from what Ive seen.
Thanks! I’m talking relative to the salary range. I came in externally and like many others, didn’t know a manager is what I should have come in as instead of an analyst. I didn’t even come in on the higher or middle end salary wise either. My successor was basically fresh out of college and got paid higher than I did. They offered her higher from the start and by then it was illegal to ask salary history as well. I just want to catch up and make what I know I’m worth. Judging by Glassdoor and even here, I’d need almost a $20K bump MINIMUM to make what the average Senior Manager makes. I am very experienced at this point.
