Amex platinum 75k points offer, what’s the catch?

From my research, the points can be used as flight credits which is worth 1 cent per point. So about $750 of value. In the first year, the cost for me would be roughly $550 AF + $100 ($5000 minimum spend that I could have gotten 2% cash back using another card). So it still sounds worth it even if I don’t utilize any of the perks?

1cpp is a horrible use of amex points. Try to redeem for 2cpp+ by transferring to airlines

Amex Platinum is extremely devalued and not worth looking anymore unless you're a Centurion fanboy.

What do you mean by devalued?

Bill. If you travel it's a godsend. The centurion lounge is the best by far. The customer service amazing. Extended warranty perk great. 5% points on travel/ hotel.great. And if you book certain hotels they give you 50$-100$ per stay back in cash.

Chase sapphire preferred is a better one if you want a bonus. 60000 ($600) points for 4k spend. 1.25x value if redeemed for travel. $95 annual fee.

Why not reserve? The annual fee changes only $50 but advantages are much more. Preferred has annual fees of $95, Reserve has $450 but $300 you are getting back as credit anyways (which is small enough & I assume you will definitely spend, else why would you really get a travel card?)

Reserve is the superior card. Agreed. Funny we have two CK employees recommending cc’s on our day off. ;)

I have been using chase sapphire reserve since 2 years now and I love it. I used Amex platinum business card for 1.5 years but closed it later. I would take chase sapphire reserve any day

There is no catch, churning is great as long as you never pay fees.

Why go for these annual fees cards? Just coz you get 25% more value for points (on preferred for example). But in the first place, its giving 33% less cash back points on travel as compared to best card in that category eg: uber visa gives 3% on travel. I go horses for courses route, 5 credit cards for different purposes yields 3.5 averaged cash back 5% for amazon, 5% whole foods, 4% restaurants & costco & gas etc
