peeps.... which one will you pick. - both opportunities r in bay area - waiting to see actual offer but TC will be close to 400k for both - splunk salary maybe 10-15k higher with higher base compared to amz - amazon role is with music, splunk role is with one of their new product where do you think growth will be faster/more. i am taking a step down from my current title so want a place with fast growth. i feel splunk has more opportunities but i have heard that they prefer to hire sr levels (Dir etc) from outside rather than grow from within Amazon, getting L7 has too many hoops and generally takes upto 3 yrs current yoe:19 Currenr TC: ~300k
Splunk has better growth prospects. AWS competition from L6 to L7 is insane. Also think about it this way, if splunk gets acquired by AWS/GCP/Azure, you’ll come in at L7 equivalent
Makes sense, one correction though, I have an offer from amazon music, not aws
Maybe go Amazon Music and get it to stop gobbling up GPU cycles to play music... 😁
Splunk> could be exciting to build up a team for a new product if it goes well it should pave a way to grow for you and if they don't because they really do recruit from outside for higher roles then go for a higher role some place else.
What product do you love most?
Splunk
Depends on the people in your group that you interviewed with. Group over everything else for peace of mind! All thing being equal I'd definitely go with Amazon b/c word is that Splunk is a clown show of toxicity and long hours are mandatory. Their last quarters haven't been good and they have laid off. Do some serious research for old threads here on Blind and the internet. If you don't like your new employer, use them as a stepping stone into FANG. Both have recognizable names to get you those interviews at FANG.
This is not true. Splunk culture is great from what I hear. Layoffs are rare

Splunk. Does anyone use Amazon Music? Is that like the Google+ of Amazon? (Alexa, Spotify please.) I just declined an offer from Splunk for FB, but they seemed like a good company. I’m not sure about Eng quality (I asked about current headaches in one Splunk interview and interviewer said they’ve been having crashes in on-prem deployments that are “totally random”). I’m also hesitant to favor on-prem type products over something cloud, and Splunk’s cloud business seemed a bit far off. But at least they’re a market-leader type product, not the market afterthought.
1) amazon music is #3 music streaming service (after Spotify and Apple) 2) most users r prime user as they get a basic tier for free. But I think with the amazon juggernaut behind it I am sure they will find a way to get 3.99/4.99 from all prime members for unlimited music and some other things so good prospects for growth I think (at least in Us) Yea I liked splunk though everyone felt to be jr/inexperienced. Amz on the other hand people felt seasons but also a bit arrogant/know it all type
