I’m L4 started in feb. I am trying to move to Cali because my gf works there. I’m worried this move might impact my rating. I’d appreciate if you guys could help me understand it better. 1. Is Dec right time to move? 2. Would this increase my PIP chances? Not that I’m bad performer but don’t want to be victim of politics 3. Would this impact my possible RSU I might get at year end? Not sure if that is team specific or even if I am eligible to get more. 4. Would I get cali standard pay increase? More I am concerned about Q2 considering this will be right before performance evaluation period. Tc- 112k.
Maybe. Get scared of all pip talks lol
As long as you have delivered at work, you should be fine. If you have reason to be afraid of performance concerns being raised, then you should play your cards carefully. My recommendation would be to discuss this with your manager and gauge his responses carefully. If you have no performance issues, a good manager will help you out in your plans.
Switch now! There is no point for the new manager to pip you just after transfer
Hopefully:P
Don’t tell your current manager that you want to move. Have informal coffee chats with hiring managers, do informal loops until you verbal offer, then officially apply via job finder and give your manager a heads up right before hitting the apply in job finder because your manager will get an automatic notice. This hopefully will prevent a retaliatory PIP.
I’m in talk about offer. Just wanted to make sure if this is right move
1. Move in January to simplify tax filing :-) 2. No, unless you report to an idiot, in which case you need to move now. 3. I’m not sure whether you’re eligible given your start date. Internal moves within the US shouldn’t impact this. 4. I think it’s only a base that gets adjusted on the transfer, you should see it in your offer.
Thanks so much
Which locations in CA are you looking to switch to?
I’m fine with any location. Preferably would like to stay with aws
You should be ok. The only thing you need to "worry" about is taxes, since it's an extraI10%, probably more than the raise you'll get. Also, you'll also spend more it in housing. And youll see 10% less RSUS, since now theyll also be taxed with CA, income tax. There's a few more vacations days than in Seattle though! And much more sunlight :P
Gotcha! I don’t care about some difference in money. Anyways this is more than enough for good living:)
Ok just be wary that unless you have a roommate, rent in SF is about 3300 for a 1 bedroom apartment. If you have a car, parking slot costs around 200-300 a month. That's already like 40k, so if you add 10% to the tax man, with an l4 salary youll still be ok, and can still save quite a bit if you are frugal, but it's not that rich life.
Man, they give out PIPs like candy over there don’t they?
You’re really overthinking this.
